Second medical specialty
In accordance with the provisions of Government Ordinance no. 18/2009, with the subsequent amendments and completions regarding the management and funding of the residency programme, the holders of a specialist doctor’s certificate can apply for the second specialty, which is non-funded.
The methodology regarding the enrolment in the second specialty training programme is published on the website of the Ministry of Health before each of the sessions organised by the Ministry of Health, usually twice a year. The faculty establishes the number of available places, by specialties, for the fee-based training programme, for each of the sessions organised by the Ministry of Health.
The training programme in the second specialty is self-funded and full-time, ensuring the same level and quality as the residency programme in that specialty. The training courses carried out during the first specialty training programme, similar in length and content, and part of the training curriculum of the second specialty, are automatically recognised and equivalated.
The equivalence is made by the Ministry of Health, at the proposal of the human medical-pharmaceutical higher education institutions that organise the residency training and with the approval of the training coordinator in the second specialty.
